Financial Aid
An education in the United States can be very expensive and there is very little financial aid for foreign nationals to study in the U.S., except perhaps for Mexican or Canadian citizens. Federal aid (Pell grants, work study and Stafford loans) is limited to U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens.
Most grants, scholarships, and loans from public and private sources are also restricted to U.S. citizens. International students will find little information about financial aid because of such limitations, but listed below are some online resources that can help. Also check with each institution to which you are applying to see if there are any specific scholarships available for international students through the school.
Be careful what information you give online. You should not have to pay to apply for scholarships or loans (other than interest rates or origination fees) and anything guaranteed or available to everyone should signal a red flag. Check FinAid.org for information on how to protect yourself from scams and identity theft.
