It's
August 21, 2017.
The eclipse lasts about 3 hours with totality lasting 3 minutes
(if it occurs - depending which regions the gray dot covers).
Our vantage point is our Moon. We are looking at North and Central
America as our Moon's shadow covers the Earth during this solar eclipse.
The large round shadow is the Penumbra, i.e. our Moon covers the
Sun only partially and somebody back on Earth would still see parts of
the Sun and it would be as bright as usual.
The little gray dot in the shadow's center is the Umbra.
This is where the total eclipse occurs and where the sky appears totally
dark for about 3 minutes.
