Library Use and Cards
A WNCC library card is required in order to check out materials, and the card must be presented in order to do so. With proper identification (drivers license, class schedule, photo I.D., etc.) WNCC students, as well as community residents and Chadron State students taking classes on the WNCC campus, may obtain a library card at no cost. These cards do not expire; they are updated yearly in the computer. If you lose the card, there is a $3.00 replacement charge.
Collection
The library collection includes books, periodicals, and audiovisual materials for curricular support of WNCC's academic programs and general research use. The book and audiovisual collection is indexed on a multi-campus computerized catalog system which may be searched by author, title, keyword, series, or Library of Congress subject heading. The entire catalog is also available on the WNCC Library web page.
Periodicals and Indexes
The periodical collection includes general interest magazines and a number of professional journals. The Library also subscribes to several periodical indexes via the World Wide Web. EBSCOHost provides full text access to more than 1,200 magazines and journals, along with indexing and abstracts for over 3,000 other titles. NebraskAccess provides a number of different databases including elibrary that has full text articles from newspapers, TV show scripts as well as magazines and much more. Nebraska Access requires your NE driver's license number from off campus to login.
Interlibrary Loan
WNCC is an active participant in OCLC, a national interlibrary loan system. A $2.00 fee for each request, to cover telecommunications and delivery expenses, must be paid at the time materials are ordered. Occasionally, additional charges may be assessed by the lending library and the user will be expected to pay any of these costs. Delivery of materials takes 5 to 10 days, so plan ahead.
Internet/EMail
All regular employees and students enrolled in credit courses are eligible for an email account. Account activation is automatic for students enrolled in online courses.
Other students and employees can activate their own accounts by using the assigned WNCC username and password to log in to MyWNCC Portal and selecting the "Activate Accounts" link from the left side menu.
Login information can be found by visiting the "Account Desk" link in MyWNCC.
Public access terminals for Internet use and access to the World Wide Web are available in the library, however students and staff of WNCC do have first priority. Questions about Internet use should be directed to the Library staff.
Demonstrations/Individual assistance
The Information Services staff can provide help with Internet searching, research methods, and database searching techniques.
