All degree programs require a minimum number of pre-requisite courses. With advising many of the pre-requisite courses can be applied to either ADN or BSN nursing programs. Appropriate advising is essential to be successful with any program. If you have questions or are interested in obtaining a nursing degree please contact an advisor at WNCC and/or UNMC to assist you in meeting your educational goals.

LPN – Licensed Practical Nurse – can be obtained in about 1 year after 17 hours of pre-requisites are completed and be a certified nurse’s assistant.

ADN – Associate Degree Nursing – 2 year nursing program which requires 28 credit hours of pre-requisites and be a certified nurses assistant.

BSN – Bachelors Degree Nursing – 2 ½ year nursing program which requires 64 credit hours of pre-requisites. Alternate degree options include RN-BSN, RN-MSN, and Accelerated programs.

Advanced Nursing Positions require a minimum of a Bachelors degree to be considered a candidate either for employment or program admission. Examples include specialty nursing (ICU, Critical Care, Women & Children’s Health, Psychiatric, etc…), advanced degrees (Master’s & PhD.), Nurse Practitioner.
