Your academic success is the number one priority at WNCC. Counselors and advisors are assigned to each student to help plan their programs of study. They work with you to outline the courses you need to meet the requirements for graduation, to change a program, or to transfer to another college. Faculty advisors have special training and experience in your specific academic field of interest. They can also provide you with information on time management, study skills, test taking, and stress management.
Advisors are available to assist students who are considering changing their programs or who need information regarding transfer to other colleges. Information on time management, study skills, test taking, and stress management is also available to help a student toward academic success.
During the first semester of attendance, each student is assigned a faculty advisor who has special training and experience in the students academic field of interest. Faculty advisors are identified for individual students in MyWNCC Portal. The advisor name is listed in the header, along with the student's program of study.
Faculty advisors are assigned to assist students with drafting an academic plan. This plan outlines the courses students need to complete in order to meet the requirements for graduation; the academic plan can be modified each semester based upon course offerings and student progress.
Faculty advisors can be of assistance to students in their efforts to achieve satisfactory academic and social adjustment.
The faculty advisor can answer general questions on scheduling and planning the academic program at any time and particularly during registration advising sessions.
The faculty advisors signature or approval is required for registration each semester before processing the registration through the Student Services Office or online. Students can register online or in person in student services. Faculty advisors do not register students.
Questions concerning work in any particular course should be discussed with the course instructor.
If a student changes programs, the faculty advisor assignment may need to be changed. All advisor and program changes are processed through the transfer advising office.
