Western Nebraska Community College has a non-discriminatory open admissions policy.
Anyone who can benefit from instruction has the right to pursue an education at any site of Western Nebraska Community College.
Immigration laws require international students to attend college on a full-time basis. To be admitted to Western Nebraska Community College, international students must complete all general admission requirements and all special admission requirements listed below.
The issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility, Form I-20, will be made only upon completion of all admission requirements. Under no circumstances should the applicant travel to the United States prior to the granting of admission and receipt of the I-20. It is the responsibility of the applicant to make all necessary arrangements through official channels for entrance into the United States.
Applicants residing in a foreign country should make application six months prior to the anticipated enrollment date. Students in the United States should allow four months to complete the admission process.
Provide certified copies of academic records (including English translation).
Submit official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for each applicant whose passport is from a county where the primary language is other than English. The score for this test must be at least 500 for the written test or 173 on the computer test.
Provide written notification from an American bank as evidence of the applicant's ability to financially maintain himself/herself while attending WNCC. (Normally this is at least US$11,300 in the applicant's name for each year of attendance.)
Provide written verification from an American insurance company that the applicant is covered for physician's care, hospitalization and major medical costs.
Complete assessment test required of all students. (After admission)
Parents or guardians of students under the legal age of nineteen will provide a notarized power of attorney to the Enrollment Director authorizing that individual to act in their behalf in case of medical or legal emergencies.
Students will comply with all local, State and Federal laws of the United States of America as well as campus policies.
Only international students with a 'student visa' will be admitted.
International students present in the United States on temporary visas are considered nonresidents for purposes of tuition payment. Length of stay, payment of taxes, ownership of property, etc., do not imply legal residency.
Students who have acquired student visas through acceptance by another school or college will not be considered for admission until they have successfully completed at least one term at the other institution and have a written release (I-538) from that institution.
An international student for whom an I-20 form has been submitted must maintain satisfactory academic progress as a full-time student each term. Western Nebraska Community College will not approve or recommend employment of nonimmigrant aliens who are students.
Upon admittance students will enroll and successfully complete, or retake until successfully completed, a College Success Class as part of their first semester curriculum.
