Independent Learning and Assessment

The Independent Learning and Assessment Center offers a variety of programs and services for students.

Students can take advantage of these services in the Clark N. Williams Building to the west of the main building on the Scottsbluff Campus.

Career Assessment

Western Nebraska Community College provides career assessments, career exploration, and job-seeking skills for people in our community and for community agency clients.

Standardized Testing

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

As many as 25 credits may be granted for successful completion of the CLEP exams. Credit is available through five general examinations or through the various subject exams; three or more credit hours are given for each test. Each exam is multiple choice and 90 minutes in length. The CLEP exams are given between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the ILAC of the Williams Building.

College Entrance Examinations

ACT

The ACT is an optional entrance exam for all Freshman students enrolling into WNCC. It consists of tests in English, Math, Social Studies, Reading and Science Reasoning and an optional essay. The packet also includes an interest inventory and a student profile section to obtain information for counseling and to help students with their educational plans. Study books are available in most bookstores and libraries. The ACT test is offered five times each year at WNCC and at many other colleges and high schools. Registration packets are available at high schools and at the Independent Learning and Assessment Center.

SAT

The SATs are entrance exams that are used at colleges and universities.The SAT Reasoning test is a five-hour test, primarily multiple-choice, that measuresverbal and mathematical reasoning abilities. The SAT Subject Tests are one-hour, primarily multiple-choice tests in specific subjects. Registration packets are available in the Independent Learning and Assessment Center.

Independent Study Courses

Independent Study Courses are open entry/open exit and are available to all students. They offer an alternative to students to enter credit courses at times other than the beginning of the three college terms. Some courses are developmental in nature to assist students with improving basic skills. Other courses are offered as electives to enhance study in an Associate Degree program.

Tutoring Services

Tutoring Services supports the mission of Western Nebraska Community college by providing quality one-on-one or small group learning assistance by certified and peer tutors who encourage students in the development of their potential as independent learners.

Fall and Spring Hours: Monday - Wednesday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Thursday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Summer Hours: Monday - Wednesday, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Thursday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Closed Saturdays and Sundays and on all holidays and breaks observed by Western Nebraska Community College.


The last testing time of the day is one hour before close.
