WNCC - Transferring Credit FAQ

Below are the questions we are asked most frequently about transferring credits from WNCC:

Will my WNCC credits transfer to another college?
Yes, in most cases they will transfer. It is always up to the receiving institution to decide which classes they will accept. Since WNCC is an accredited institution our courses usually do transfer, however, students should keep the following restrictions in mind:

  • You usually need a C or above in each class for it to transfer.

  • Classes need to be at the same or similar academic level. For example, our freshman level child development practicum will not be equivalent to a senior level child development practicum.

  • Most schools will accept only 64-66 credits in transfer.

  • Developmental courses (at 0XXX level) usually do not transfer.

  • A few courses from WNCC do not exist at other schools. Always ask if you are concerned. Some schools will give general credit for those courses and some will not. Be prepared to show the receiving school a syllabus or ask for help from our transfer advisor.

How do I transfer my courses/credits?
You ask the registrar in writing to send an official copy of your transcript to the school you will be attending. The receiving school will then evaluate your courses or degree. When you get the results and you have concerns about specific classes not transferring always ask an advisor in your chosen program for advice on whether you can appeal the first decision. If you need support, contact the transfer advisor at WNCC at 308.635.6050.

Can I find out ahead of time which of my courses/credits will transfer to another college?
It is a good idea to look ahead to the school and program of study you plan to enter. You may not be certain, but the transfer advisor can help you make decisions about which course choices are best for you eventual transfer. For example some four schools and some programs require that you have public speaking instead of speech communications. The key is to plan ahead and ask questions, both here at WNCC and the school where you intend to transfer. Articulation agreements are already in place with many schools.

Can the Transfer Advisor help decide where to transfer?
Yes, the transfer advisor can research schools and/or programs of interest. It may take more than one visit to gather the information you need so you may need more than one appointment.

When should I start thinking about transferring?
The sooner you can look at your options, the more effective your decisions will be.
