WNCC Student Testimonials - VUB Program
Vanessa Suttles
Marines VA work study participant in the VUB office"
"I am a former United States Marine and participant of Western Nebraska Community College's Veterans Upward Bound program. The VUB representatives are very knowledgeable and made the filing of my G.I. Bill benefits and college admission and registration a smooth process. They have always been able to offer extra information on applying for other scholarship and financial assistance for veterans so that I and others would be able to continue our quest for higher education. Without VUB I would not have received the necessary support that helped me to better organize my class schedule and establish realistic education goals as well as interact with other VUB veterans in an educational and conducive environment."

"I am a participant in Veterans Upward Bound. I have had to overcome many challenges in my life. I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran with 6 Campaigns in Vietnam, while serving in the U.S. Navy. My oldest son is also a disabled veteran as he served in Operation Enduring Freedom, while serving in the U.S. Army. We are both participants in the Veterans Upward Bound program here at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff. If it wasn't for the wonderful staff, at the VUB, and their support I probably wouldn't have had the chance to attend college and graduate this May. The local VUB staff has given me the opportunity to further my education by supplying me with the essential tools, such as paper, pencils, books, and a tutor for my more difficult studies. They have also been great supporters of my good grades and have encouraged me to always try and better myself. Therefore, it is due to their ever present availability that I can truly say that I will have a better chance of improving my status in society after graduation."
