Tutor Qualifications and Responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Grade of B or higher in subject tutoring
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sensitivity to students who are struggling academically
  • Sensitivity to students from non-traditional backgrounds
  • Responsible and organized
  • Willing to serve as a positive role model to program students

Responsibilities:

  • Assist students to understand subject matter
  • Assist students to improve academic skills
  • Create an atmosphere of encouragement and support
  • Refer students to counselor when other problems appear severe
  • Complete payroll paperwork on time
  • Contact Coordinator or instructors when necessary when assisting students
  • Attend all tutor training sessions
  • Use other resources to improve tutoring skills
  • Maintain weekly contact with Tutor Coordinator
  • Turn in student contact sheets to Coordinator each Friday

Your application will be evaluated on the following:

  • Faculty recommendation
  • Hours available for work
  • Class schedule
  • Grade point average in subject area to be tutored
