2013 District Music Contest Results

April 19, 2013

Western Nebraska Community College was again the proud host of the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) District VI Music Contest. NSAA's 2013 all-day competition was held yesterday at the WNCC Scottsbluff Campus.  Results are posted on WNCC's website at

Vocal and instrumental musicians from eight area school systems competed for ratings throughout the day. Sharon Hoffman of Bayard was the contest coordinator; Rita Stinner and Dr. Nathaniel Johnson of the WNCC Music Program were the site coordinators.
Participating schools included Bayard, Bridgeport, Gering, Kimball, Minatare, Mitchell, Morrill, and Scottsbluff.  The following schools were scheduled to participate but, unfortunately, were not able to make the trip due to inclement weather: Banner County, Creek Valley, Leyton, Potter-Dix, Sidney, and Sioux County.
Musicians competed for a rating based on a standard of musical excellence. A rating of (1) represents superior or outstanding work; (2) rating represents excellent work; (3) rating represents a good or average performance; (4) indicates below average work; and a (5) rating indicates a poor performance. Award certificates are presented to those solos, small ensembles, and large ensembles earning a superior rating. Plaques are awarded to large ensembles earning a unanimous superior rating from all three judges. One Outstanding Performance and two Honorable Mention Performance awards may be selected by each judge for solo and small ensemble excellence during the day.
Thirteen judges representing Western Nebraska Community College, Alliance, Bridgeport, Hay Springs, Scottsbluff, Cheyenne and Torrington, WY, and Loveland, CO adjudicated this annual event.  Sharon Hoffman, of Bayard, was the contest coordinator; Rita Stinner and Dr. Nathaniel Johnson, of the WNCC Music Program, were the site coordinators.  For more information, contact Rita Stinner at or 308.635.6045.
