August 09, 2016

The Military and Veterans Affairs office at Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) hosts its third annual Service Women Attaining Power (SWAP) event on Saturday, September 10. WNCC is moving the event, previously held at the Sidney campus, to the John N. Harms Advanced Technology Center in Scottsbluff from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Collaborators in the SWAP event include the VA Medical Centers of Black Hills, Cheyenne, and Omaha. WNCC Military and Veterans Affairs Director Chris Wolf encourages all female veterans to attend and learn more about changes in processing medical claims offered by the VA Health System.

Admission is free and registration begins at 9:00 a.m. when attendees meet and greet over coffee and rolls. Wolf and provides a welcome at 9:30 a.m. with an introduction to women's health topics. "The VA has really expanded its services for females," says Wolf, "and I am very eager to spread this information. We want to make sure our female veterans learn about all the services that they are entitled to."

Tom McDonough, Nebraska State Service Officer from Lincoln, NE and Lisa Helms, <title> provides the keynote speech, sharing with attendees the services offered to them through the County Veterans Service officers.

While the conference informs and educates female veterans of important health services available to them, the organizers plan to implement relaxing activities like yoga throughout the day, encourage comradeship, and help build friendly connections. Attendees may register in advance by emailing or calling the Military & Veterans Affairs Office at the WNCC Scottsbluff Campus at 308-635-6042.
